What a full yard job actually involves
A yard is rarely one job. A typical Mandurah backyard that needs "doing" is really a sequence: clear what is there, sort the levels and any retaining, run or repair the reticulation, prepare the soil, lay the turf or artificial grass, then plant and mulch. Get that order wrong and you pay twice — the classic being turf laid before the retic is sorted, which means lifting new lawn to dig a trench through it.
This is the practical reason for using one crew across fencing, landscaping and paving rather than three specialists. The order of works is the job. When the fencer, the paver and the landscaper are the same people, nobody is waiting on anybody and no one is working around someone else's finished surface.
Watering, sand and what survives here
Mandurah soil is largely sand, which drains fast and holds very little. Water goes straight through it and nutrients go with the water. That is why reticulation is not a luxury on a lawn here and why soil improvement before planting is worth more than expensive plants — good plants in unimproved sand still struggle.
It is also why the watering roster matters. Perth and Peel are on a scheme-water sprinkler roster with a winter sprinkler ban, and a system set up without that in mind either wastes water or dries out at the wrong time of year. Reticulation that is correctly zoned — lawn on its own station, garden beds on another, and drip where drip belongs — uses noticeably less water than one blanket system.
Lawn or artificial grass
Both work here and the right answer depends on the block rather than on which is better. Real turf on sand needs reticulation, feeding and mowing, and in return it stays cool underfoot and handles heavy use. Artificial grass needs none of those and looks the same in February as it does in August, which suits a small courtyard, a shaded side return where nothing will grow, or an owner who wants the look without the roster.
The honest trade-off is heat and base preparation. Artificial grass gets hot in full summer sun, and it is only as good as the base under it — a cheap install on an unprepared base ripples and holds water. Most of the cost of a good artificial lawn is in the groundwork nobody sees.
Weeding, mulching, clean-ups and edging
The smaller jobs — weeding and weed spraying, mulching, pruning, edging, and full yard clean-ups — are all part of what the crew does, whether as a one-off or on a regular visit. If the yard has got away a bit, that is an ordinary job and not an unusual one. Green waste goes with us.

Common questions
What order should the work happen in?
Broadly: clearing, then levels and retaining, then reticulation, then soil preparation, then turf or artificial grass, then planting and mulch. Hard landscaping and fencing come before soft landscaping wherever machinery has to get in. If you are planning a whole yard, it is worth having the conversation before anything starts rather than after the lawn is down.
Do I need reticulation for a lawn in Mandurah?
On sandy soil, realistically yes if you want the lawn to survive summer. Sand drains too fast for hand watering to keep up, and a hose left running wastes far more water than a correctly zoned system uses. Artificial grass is the alternative if you would rather not have a system at all.
Can you fix a reticulation system rather than replace it?
Usually. Broken solenoids, split poly, a controller that has lost its program, sprinkler heads that have been mown off or blocked with sand — those are repairs, not replacements. We will tell you honestly if a system is past sensible repair rather than quietly quoting a new one.
Do you do regular garden maintenance, or only one-off jobs?
Both. Regular visits can be fortnightly, monthly or seasonal, and there is no lock-in contract. A one-off tidy-up is equally fine.
Do you take the green waste away?
Yes, every visit. You do not need to fill a bin over the following fortnight or organise a verge collection.
Can you look after a garden for a family member?
